Inspired by the Situationist Internationl’s Dérive: a mode of experimental behavior to challenge conditions of urban society: a technique of haphazard meandering through psycho-geographic maps in order to counteract ideological decomposition or otherwise find freedom. This is an anti-USC Map installed in a dungeon, otherwise known as one of the USC Engineering Lab warehouses. Purpose: Get out of the University routine or walking route and you’ll find the map that is meant to be representative of systematic student life.
Blue Trails was a project enamored with blue ball point pen ink and the human figure. A session with each model= 7 hours of drawing, and 2 to 4 hours of shooting. The setup, ink backdrop, and self tests were a year’s worth of ideation and meditation. My problem was an obsession with ink on my body and never having a physical materiality
of my work that would last longer than two days. My solution was to engage with intimate friends and draw the long lines I wanted to extend to other life forces.
